AT THE COMPOST FACILITY in YORKTOWN

Full time positions with excellent benefits including health insurance, retirement, and paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.

Lead Operator – The Lead Operator performs lead work and supervision of all equipment operators in the operation of heavy equipment used at the Compost Facility which can include but is not limited to skid steers, front end loaders, grinders, screeners, and excavators. This position reports to and receives general supervision from the Compost Facility Supervisor. The Lead Operator will collaborate with the Compost Facility Supervisor to create daily work plans and schedules to ensure proper handling of yard waste materials. This position is a “safety sensitive” position subject to VPPSA drug testing policies.

The Lead Operator position is a regular full-time, hourly position.

Normal work hours are five (5) days per week, forty (40) hours per week. The Lead Operator will generally work Monday to Saturday, working with the Compost Facility Supervisor to ensure supervisory coverage at the site. Additional work over forty hours per week is expected. The Lead Operator may be required to work at night and on weekends for emergencies. Will generally report to work at the Compost Facility. Work will be conducted both in an office and outdoors.

Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by technical training in compost and mulch operations and experience in the management of heavy equipment operation or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and capabilities. Experience with the operation and maintenance of compost facility specific equipment including but not limited to skid steers, front end loaders, grinders, screeners, and excavators is highly preferred.

Customer Service Specialist – the Compost Facility Customer Service Specialist is responsible for the material sales, cash handling, customer interaction and traffic control at the facility.  Provides daily, weekly and monthly reports to the Compost Facility Supervisor.  The Compost Facility Customer Service Specialist reports to the Compost Facility Supervisor. Graduation from high school and one year of experience in either retail sales or in the operation of computer equipment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and capabilities. ON THE MIDDLE PENINSULA

ASSISTANT TRANSFER SYSTEM SUPERVISOR
The Assistant Transfer System Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Transfer System Supervisor in coordinating the daily operations of the transfer stations, convenience centers, and the hauling of solid waste and recyclables to regional disposal facilities and processing sites. Supervises attendants for the transfer stations and convenience centers and drivers along with the Transfer System Supervisor. Assists with special events and household chemical collections as needed. Reports to and receives supervision from the Transfer System Supervisor through regular discussions and consultations. This position is a “safety sensitive” position subject to VPPSA drug testing policies.

The Assistant Transfer System Supervisor position is a regular full-time salaried position.

Normal work hours are five (5) days per week, forty (40) hours per week. Additional work over 40 hours per week is expected. Will remain “on-call” for special circumstances at night, weekends, and on holidays. Will normally report to work on the Middle Peninsula.

Graduation from an accredited College or University with one (1) year of solid waste management and supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Must possess a valid Virginia commercial driver’s license (Class B) with an air brake endorsement and a Medical Examiners Certification. Must have and maintain a good driving record.

MAINTENANCE MECHANIC I – the Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for performing and documenting maintenance activities on Transfer System, Convenience Centers, and Drop Off Recycling and Compost Facility vehicles and equipment. Reports to and receives supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor through regular discussions and consultations. Performs maintenance and repair work on vehicles, sites and equipment.

Graduation from high school, 5 years maintenance and repair experience, including ability to utilize schematics for electrical and hydraulic repairs, or any combination of training and experience which demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and capabilities. Preference given to candidates that possess a valid Virginia commercial driver’s license (Class B) with an air brake endorsement and a Medical Examiners Certification. Required to use personal tools in the performance of job duties.

ATTENDANTS
To assist residents with solid waste and recycling needs at Middle Peninsula sites. Attendants will also participate in Household Chemical events.

Positive attitude, good public relations skills, and willing and able to travel to locations in King William, King & Queen, Essex, Middlesex and Mathews counties. Requires high school graduation or equivalent combination of training and experience which demonstrates the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license. Attendants starting salary $13.90 per hour. Application required.
